Meet Senator Sandy Pappas

Born in Hibbing, Minnesota, Sandy grew up and attended schools in the Twin Cities and has lived in Saint Paul since 1977. Her Finnish great-grandparents were blacklisted from the iron mines after a failed strike in 1907 but went on to farm and found the Socialist Hall in Pike River.

Personal Vision Statement: When I was growing up, I didn’t expect to become the first female pro-choice house member to represent my district. When I was young, my parents separated, and my father stopped paying child support after he lost his job. I knew that my family needed someone to step up and work hard so I decided to be the one to do it. I helped my family all the way through college, even though I was the first in my family to go. As I got older, I began to see the city of Saint Paul as my family. I will fight for them and have fought for them since I first ran for office.
